Neighbor spearheads Candlelight Vigil

We invite residents and neighbors to join in a peaceful and silent Candelight Vigil in Merchantville on Wednesday evening, 8/16/17, from 8:00-8:30PM. This vigil is being held in memory of Heather Heyer, Lt. H. Jay Cullen and trooper-pilot Berke Bates who lost their lives in Charlottesville, VA and to express our respect for racial, religious, ethnic and gender equality and justice. Please bring a candle and assemble at 8:00 PM along both sides of Maple Avenue from Route 130, at the entrance to the Borough of Merchantville, to Church Road in Pennsauken Township. We welcome all residents and neighbors who would like to express their personal sympathy for the loss of life and their concern about the events of this past weekend in a peaceful, respectful manner. Thank you.

Merchantville Matters

When Merchantville Neighbors announced they were closing, I decided to start a new group. But looks like Neighbors isn't going anywhere. This can be an alternative group to discuss news and goings-on in and around 08109. The only rules are be nice to each other and don't spam the group! Rants and raves are fine on occasion, but do NOT bring drama here. This is a DRAMA-FREE zone. We'll work on a 3 strikes and you're out policy here until further notice. But seriously, let's focus on the positive aspects of living in this community - let's use our voices to promote the good things happening right here. Let's laugh at the funny things and help others in time of need. Also, promotions are fine within reason. Just don't post the same thing over and over, okay? Lastly, general topics that have nothing to do with Merchantville or aren't local in nature will be deleted. Thanks a bunch!

Merchantville Living

Merchantville's #1 place to be online! If you reside in Merchantville (or within a 10 mile radius) & want to join our community, message group creator Brent Czar with your major cross-streets (exact address not necessary) to confirm residency. He may send you a message but it will appear in your "Message Requests" folder you'll have to hunt down. Once you're approved, feel free to jump into the conversation, introduce yourself and why you're excited about our community. July 2017

Welcome! Here we'll go over group dynamics, how it operates, and what we are all about. WHAT THE GROUP IS: We are specifically purposed in letting Merchantville residents (or those relocating here) get to know our town and its events, post questions, seek out referrals, be a resource, and simply unify into a tighter knit community. We are a community forum where we can discuss what's happening in our city, and let others know about wants/needs we may have. WHAT THE GROUP IS NOT: An online garage sale site An avenue to discuss religious beliefs. A complainers paradise, disrespectful/rude behavior, bullying. We will have civil conversations. A free advertising venue for your independent business, whether offering a product, service, or recruiting. We will get to know you and your business best through your contribution and interaction within the group. We will be doing contests and prize giveaways!! If you're a small business and want to have some promotion, message Brent Czar for details on how you can get involved. RULES: To maintain the vision of the group, keep spam away, and provide quality content, admins reserve the right to remove any comment they feel is not in line with the community-driven purpose of the group, as well as discretion to remove any member that disrupts this vision. Respect will be extended in all communication. Please refrain from posting about extremely negative news that we cannot do something about - someone was murdered, etc. Traffic conditions, alerts, possible crime, public awareness ok. Well-intentioned shared third-party articles tend to block the flow of conversation and therefore will *generally* not be approved. If you have an issue, please contact an Admin. One of us will be happy to assist swiftly. **If your post is not approved, more likely than not it simply does not fit the guidelines** REAL ESTATE: Being in the industry, from time-to-time I will post about real estate as it relates to the Merchantville community. if you are a For Sale by Owner or Realtor, message me (Brent Czar) about sharing your listing to the group (MUST be pre-market and exclusive to our group for a specified period of time)

Transformer blows during storm

On February 9th during the snow storm Engine 12-91 was dispatched around 8:45AM for a wires call. When the Engine arrived on location the top of the pole at Chapel Ave and Spruce St. was on fire. Crews secured the area until PSE&G could secure the power. While awaiting their arrival the wires dropped arcing and sparking. Once the power was secured the pole was extinguished. Power is still out in the area at the time of this posting with unknown time of return. Power was restored.

Burt German honored by Mayor

Mayor Ted Brennan recently honored long time resident, Burt German, for his 60 plus years of service to the Merchantville community with a framed proclamation. Burt, who has served our community as a Borough councillor, Borough fire commissioner and fire chief of Merchantville's Niagra Fire Company, was just sworn in for his 9th term as a commissioner for the MPWC (Merchantville-Pennsauken Water Commission).

Burt is also a very familiar face to many at Woodbine Swim Club and NJ swimming organizations. He was the 2007 winner of the NFHS Officials Association Citation Award - an award given to those whose contributions have had an impact on high school activity and athletic programs at the local and state levels. He has been chair of the NJ State Interscholastic Athletic Association State Swimming Committee since 1995, and is past president of the NJ Swimming Officials Association and the South Jersey Swim Officials Association. The annual Tri-County Swim Meet is named in his honor.
