Best South Jersey towns for families: Where does yours rank? Well according to NJFamily.com now there's a list that ranks the family-friendliness of more than 500 towns across the state. The site assigned ratings to towns with populations of 1,500-plus based on factors such as schools, safety, affordability and diversity. Merchantville ranked #7 in Camden County, but we think it's #1.

Saturday, April 13th is sizing up to be a beautiful day and the borough has quite a line up of fun events for Merchantville kids and adults. The day starts at 10:00 a.m. with the Borough's Annual Egg Hunt at the Community Center where kids age 10 and under are invited to bring their baskets and join in egg-gathering fun. MLL Opening Day ceremonies begin right after the Egg Hunt at 11:15. Baseball, softball and T-ball teams will be announced, a group photo taken, and some first games played. There will be face painting and a bounce house for all children to enjoy. Merchantville's Market Off Centre will also be hosting a spring market along the trail in front of The Station starting at 11:00 a.m. Our Garden Club will host their Annual Daffodil Fest from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m where you can find daffodil bulb and pansy sales; a floral scavenger hunt; kid’s crafts; the "Little Engine That Could" book trail; a railway memorabilia display; a tree seedling give away; a potting party workshop and kids pollination game, just to name a few! Also, the Garden Club, Green Team, IE Merchantville and  Shade Tree commission will provide information and answer questions about their clubs and projects. And, don't forget to visit The Cherry Valley Model Railroad Club
open house at Grace Church, 7 East Maple Avenue.            

The power of volunteerism is immeasurable. A society which supports and encourages different forms of volunteering is likely to be a society which also promotes the well-being of its citizens. The Borough is looking for volunteers to assist with future Borough-sponsored public events. St. Peter School Merchantville celebrated our wonderful Knights of Columbus Council on their Founder's Day. We had a special presentation during Mass to thank them for their tireless service to our school and parish. Afterwards the Knights spoke to our students to let them know all about being a Knight and the importance of service. The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded by Michael J. McGivney in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1882, it was named in honor of the explorer Christopher Columbus.

The Merchantville Observer, a free, all-volunteer, monthly publication for town news, is seeking new volunteers to fill several key positions: Editor to identify newsworthy stories around town, assign reporters to cover them, and share in copy editing for a portion of the articles. Three reporters to cover general interest stories and to partner with and back-up our reporters for Borough Council, education, and community interest. Dropbox coordinator to keep our internet-based filing system for stories up to date and/or to generate the monthly template on which editors fill in publication priorities. Volunteers for these positions may apply as individuals or as a team. The time commitment for each position is typically around six hours per month but may occasionally reach ten hours per month. Congratulations to Mayor Edward Brennan who was sworn into Merchantville municipal office by Congressman Norcross at the January 2019 reorganization meeting. Also taking the oath for three year terms were councilpersons Daniel Sperrazza, Sean Fitzgerald and Maria Scarpa.
