Merchantville merger effort ends, for now

The question of whether Cherry Hill and Merchantville ought to merge won't be on the November ballot. Cherry Hill Mayor Chuck Cahn has effectively pulled the plug on a planned municipal-consolidation study that Merchantville Mayor Frank North didn't support earlier.

Classic Town Gallery on display

DVRPC and the “I Love Classic Towns” Photo Contest judges have selected 51 photographs for inclusion in the touring gallery show. The exhibition will make its way through 10 towns inluding Merchantville - from Setptember 1st through 30th - during the coming year and features photos taken between January 1, 2010 and April 14, 2012 that highlight the many reasons to love life in the Classic Towns of Greater Philadelphia. l

Taste

Come join us for the next Taste of Sicily the evening of August 23. Chef Carlo will be preparing an all seafood menu. Appetizer is Grilled Octopus Salad, First Course includes Risotto al frutti di mare, a risotto with fresh seafood in our homemade marinara sauce, our Second course is Bronzino a modo mio, a bronzino a white Mediterranean fish prepared Chef Carlo’s way and a light, summer dessert of limoncello.

Veterans Medal Ceremony in Merchantville

Freeholder and Merchantville resident, Carmen Rodriguez, presented seven Camden County Military Service Medals to veterans, and their surviving family members, during Merchantville’s 14th Annual Car and Bike Show on July 21st. For the last 14 years Camden County has worked with the Borough of Merchantville to honor our veterans and this year we have seven recipients that have served their country with grace and valor in a time of war.  Pictures

Car Show returns for 14th year

After a one week rain delay the 2012 Car Show is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 21st in downtown Merchantville, NJ. Registration is from 12:00-3:00 p.m. at the show entrance on Alexander Avenue and the event runs from 3:00-9:00 p.m. The Car Show features family fun including a rock-wall, moon-bounce, hula hoop & limbo contest and petting zoo. Additional events include a borough wide patriotic decorated home contest and an open house at Grace Episcopal Church featuring the Cherry Valley Model Railroad. There will be a Live Elvis Show, 9 DJs and live bands!  Enjoy fantastic estaurants, shops and an open air food court.

Firemen injured in Merchantville blaze

Two firefighters were injured fighting a fully-involved house fire in Merchantville at late Monday night. The fire was first reported about 10:15 p.m. in a single-family home in the 100 block of East Maple Avenue. Fire crews reported heavy fire and thick smoke billowing from the two-story house when they arrived. Reports said one firefighter suffered a head injury and injuries to the other were non-life-threatening. Both were taken to Cooper University Hospital. Video

Save the Dates

Café BellaVita will be hosting two different events in July and we want you to save the dates to experience Carlo’s talented cooking. Thursday July 19 features a Pork Dinner where Carlo will be serving a full picnic roast for parties of 4 and more.  Round up the family and friends and make it a date at your local Italian Bistro.  This event is by reservation only. And, on Thursday, July 26 our monthly Taste of Sicily. Seafood is a big influence in Sicily which is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea.  This Taste of Sicily Carlo wants to bring the Mediterranean to Merchantville and will be serving all seafood dishes including bronzino.

Art Reception Planned

Eilanarts Center invites you to join them on January 30th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. for the art reception of their current show "The Shape of Color".
