Pennsauken Trails project

Opening Day for Trails is the national kickoff celebration for the spring trail season. Started by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy Rails-to-Trails Conservancy in 2013 and encourages people to get outside and celebrate America’s exceptional trails and trail systems. On Saturday, April 13th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00p.m. Pennsauken will celebrate at Madison Park, 38th Street and Chestnut Avenue for a day of food, fun and festivities as we celebrate Opening Day for Trails along the future section of the Burlington-Camden Trail in Pennsauken. Mingle with Township Committeewoman Betsy McBride and elected leaders in the community. Learn about the developing trail project, including exploring renderings, its future footprint and connections to The Circuit Trails. Pennsauken is the site of a disused rail segment between Dudley Grange Park and the “Merchantville Mile,” a well-used rail-trail running through the neighboring community of Merchantville, New Jersey. If transformed into a trail, the Pennsauken segment could provide a safe off-road connection to the Ben Franklin Bridge and into Philadelphia. Jointly hosted by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, The Circuit Trails, UrbanPromise, Camden County Government, City of Camden Government and Pennsauken.

Three departments battle fire

Firefighters from three local companies fought against shifting winds and chilly temperatures to suppress a house fire in the unit block of Strawbridge Avenue in Haddon Township Sunday evening. Responders were dispatched to the scene at 10:34 p.m., and arrived to find heavy smoke and fire extruding from the rear of the home, said Westmont Fire Captain Dan Devitt. Working together, teams from Westmont Fire Company, Haddon Fire Company, and Collingswood Fire Department had the scene under control within half an hour, Devitt said.

Chapel Avenue road improvements

Camden County and Cherry Hill will host a public information meeting about Chapel Avenue roadway improvements on February 5th at Carmen Tilelli Community Center on Mercer Street. French & Parrello Associates was retained by Camden County to provide concept development, along with preliminary and final design for the improvements to approximately 2.1 miles of Chapel Avenue in Cherry Hill Township. The project required close coordination with local officials as two schools, a hospital, and municipal park were all located within the project limits. The project was coordinated with the replacement of an existing traffic signal at a school driveway being completed by Cherry Hill Township.
