The members Pennsauken Fire Department are mourning the loss today of Deputy Chief Jack Weiss, 90, of the East Pennsauken Volunteer Fire Association, No.1. He was a patriarch, ambassador, teacher, and member the Greatest Generation. Deputy Chief Weiss was immensely loved by his family, friends and decades of members of the Pennsauken Fire Department. As the finest example of what it means to be one of us, Deputy Chief Weiss maintained a constant presence among our members at meetings, drills and on the fireground throughout his 64 years of service to the Township of Pennsauken. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Jack Killion's column in "All Around Pennsauken" announced that he will retire from his position as the coordinator of buildings and grounds with the Pennsauken School District and Township Committee, where he presides as mayor, on July 1st. He thanked residence for allowing him to serve for almost 20 years. He noted that Pennsauken will continue to be his home and looks forward to seeing what the next chapter of his life brings.

Mayor Chuck Cahn and the members of Township Council are pleased to once again present one of Cherry Hill's premier events, featuring seven days of incredible deals at some of Cherry Hill's finest eateries. Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. joined local Pennsauken officials, Betsy McBride and Jack Killion, and representatives from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank to announce the beginning of a rehabilitation project on Westfield Avenue from Tinsman Avenue to Rt. 130 in Pennsauken.. The $2.1 million project is the first in New Jersey to receive funding from the newly formed Transportation Bank. Loans aid local governments by offering significantly reduced interest rates and minimizing the principle that is used to calculate that interest.

Pennsauken’s second annual Nature Enthusiast Day will be held on Saturday, May 4th from 10:00 a.m. to noon, at Tippin’s Pond, 421 Cove Rd. Sponsored by Pennsauken Township’s Department of Parks and Recreation and Pennsauken’s Nature Enthusiasts, the event, open to children ages 7-13, is an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors through a variety of fun activities including a nature-focused scavenger hunt; fishing contest (participants must bring their own fishing pole and bait); nature chalk art contest; and bird house decorating. Attendees are asked to dress appropriately for being outside in the woods. The event is free, but pre-registration is required, as there are only 40 spots available for participants.
