Market Storytime

Miss Christen, branch manager at the Merchantville Public Library, will host a pop-up Story Time at the Market Off Centre at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 2nd, 9th, 16th, 30th and, August 6th. She will share stories, rhymes and dance together with you and your little ones. Kids and parents should bring a blanket or chair for comfort. You can register at events.camdencountylibrary.org for up to date information. Masks are not required but, welcome.

Police Join Torch Run

Early in the morning on June 11th more than 3,000 officers took to the streets of their local communities on one of 26 separate routes to help carry the “Flame of Hope” a distance of nearly 750 miles throughout the Garden State to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics New Jersey. Members of the Merchantville and Pennsauken Police departments participated in the New jersey Torch Run event along Park Avenue, Centre Street and Maple Avenue. During a moving ceremony in Athens, Greece the "Flame of Hope" torch was lit by the rays of the sun as the first part of its journey to the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi in 2019.

Memorial Groundbreaking

The Borough of Merchantville and Merchantville Legion Post 68 will host a Memorial Day Service and Groundbreaking Ceremony on Monday, May 31, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Legion Post 68 is working with the Borough the Borough, the Taskforce, the Travis Manion Foundation and Philadelphia Team RWB to build a Veterans Memorial walkway in Wellwood Park. The walkway will be constructed with engraved bricks that can be purchased to honor those veterans in your life. The groundbreaking will take place on Memorial Day in the park, directly following our annual Memorial Day service. The brick walkway will link our WW1 monument with monuments honoring Veterans of all wars located several yards adjacent to one another. All are welcome to attend. Please be advised of masks and social distancing requirements. Engraved 4" x 8" bricks are $50 each and engraved 8" x 8" bricks are $100 each. Armed Forces emblems are only available on the larger bricks due to size constraints. Brick requests can be found on the F. W. Grigg Post 68 website and under the "forms" tab. National Police Week

This year May 9th - May 15th encompasses National Police Week. In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. Due to certain restrictions imposed by COVID-19 most of the events surrounding police week will be held virtually this year. For a listing of events and how to view them please see the below image.
So far this year 119 Law Enforcement Officers have lost their lives while serving their communities. Join the live stream Candlelight Vigil on Thursday, May 13th at 8:00 p.m. on Facebook.

Mother's Day 2021

Mother's Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May. It complements similar celebrations honoring family members, such as Father's Day, Siblings Day, and Grandparents Day. The modern holiday began in the United States, at the initiative of Anna Jarvis who organized the first Mother's Day service of worship and celebration at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia, on May 15, 1962. It which serves as the International Mother's Day Shrine today.

Letter to Mom

Recently The Collingswood Patch asked readers in more than 1,000 communities to share what their moms mean to them in "Love Letters To Mom". Almost 200 people responded, paying tribute not just to moms but sometimes to grandmas, sisters and daughters who deserve recognition for Mother's Day on May 9, 2021. Sherri Boardley from Merchantville penned a Happy Mother's Day to Martha Boardley giving thanks for showing her what motherhood is all about and raising strong independent women.

Art Reception Planned

Eilanarts Center invites you to join them on January 30th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. for the art reception of their current show "The Shape of Color".
