MES sweeps essay awards

Congratulations toMerchantville School students Jessica Katzberg, Tim Rocchi and Ava Kelly and teacher, Dina Turan, in winning the 2019 American Legion of Merchantville/Pennsauken essay contest about Americanism. Our MES students took first, second and third place in this annual competition sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary for grades third (3) through twelfth (12). The contest has different classifications pertaining to grouping or classes. Essays need to be at least 150 to 500 words depending upon which “class” the student falls under.

Annie Jr. at SPS

St. Peter School is proud to announce that our very own students will be performing our 2019 school musical, "Annie Jr." on Thursday, May 16th at 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 17th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 18th at 2:00 p.m. SPS rolled out its new performing arts club, the St. Peter Performers, this past fall. To help support this new endeavor we will be putting together an ad and patron book which will be distributed to everyone who comes to our performances.

PTA Derby fundraiser

Ladies, flaunt your hats, and gents, don that bow tie! Merchantville School's largest fundraiser of the year is almost here. The PTA's Kentucky Derby Benefit & Auction is scheduled for May 4th, 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Merchantville Community Center, 212 Somerset Ave. This basket fundraiser is held on the day of the Kentucky Derby. Dress up, wear your best hat and win big at the races. Tickets are $25 per person. Get your tickets here.

Curriculum at MES

This video describes the philosophy behind the development of Merchantville School's curriculum and instructional practices. Goal #1:  Improve student achievement at all grade levels for all students and decrease achievement gaps where they exist. Goal #2:  Implement high-quality instruction in every classroom that promotes innovative educational practices to meet the individual needs of students. Goal #3:  Foster the partnership with parents to assist students in cultivating the skills to be successful academically and socially in and out of Merchantville School.

Hey, MES families come enjoy a great night out at the park, on Tuesday, April 9th is Phillies vs. Washington Nationals Dollar Dog Night! The Philadelphia Phillies have had a historical off season with the addition of Bryce Harper, JT Realmuto and Andrew McCutchen. They will be a force in the NL East! Get your $5 tickets to the game and spend some quality time with your Merchantville friends watching Harper face off against his old team, the Washington Nationals! Job offerings at MES

Job Posting March 27, 2019 The Merchantville School District is seeking qualified candidates for the following positions. Early Childhood Extended School Year 2019 – Teacher & Aide Dates – July 1 to August 1 - Monday to Thursday excluding July 4th. Student Hours: 9:00 – 11:30. Teacher and Aide Hours: 8:30 – 11:45. Certified Special Education Teacher at $40 per hour. Paraprofessional Aide at $16 per hour Summer Speech services as needed in IEPs Flexible Summer dates with time incorporated into the ESY program. Up to 30 hours for the summer at MEA contracted rate of $40 per hour. Certified Speech and Language Specialist Summer Reading Program Coordinator Develop a summer reading program for students in grades 1 – 8 that will be implemented in the Summer 2019. Work needs to be completed no later than May 17. This is a stipend position for $500. It can be shared between two people if the parties agree Summer Music Program Coordinator Coordination and implementation of our summer music program. Working with the administration to determine the best program time. Up to 50 hours at a contracted rate of $40 per hour Summer Enhancement Program June 24 – July 25 from Monday – Thursday: 1:30 – 3:00 Mondays and Wednesdays ELA. Tuesdays and Thursdays Math. Three different classes will run for each subject. Currently in K &1, currently in 2 & 3, currently in 4 & 5. Certified teachers will earn $40 per the MEA contract. Art Reception Planned

Eilanarts Center invites you to join them on January 30th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. for the art reception of their current show "The Shape of Color". This show features local artists including center owner, Nicole Eiland, and others: Beth Fisher, Alison Judah, Kerry Mentzer, Nathan Rutkowski and Leeannwyn Stoner.
