It's the perfect time to become a member of the Shade Tree Commission! A Street tree inventory will soon be underway by a Tree Professional (pursuant to a DEP grant) to assess tree conditions, risks, and tree/sidewalk conflicts. The tree inventory will serve as the foundation for developing a plan for future tree maintenance, planting, and removal. Great way to begin your time on the Commission! Our Shade Tree volunteers plant and maintain all curbside trees in the Borough. Other responsibilities include: removal and/or trimming of curbside and public trees, reporting tree related problems to other Borough agencies, maintaining Tree City USA status, conducting Arbor Day ceremonies, providing tips to the public on general tree maintenance, providing guidelines for dealing with tree damaged sidewalks and, managing the Affiliated memorial tree and plaque program. Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr., was joined today by Camden County’s business advocates, Congressman Donald Norcross and clergy to announce a forthcoming grant funding program for small businesses launching on July 23rd. The county has received federal funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to assist struggling businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we navigate through this public health crisis, we know that merchants on Main Street are hurting and it is imperative to make every effort to get them additional financial assistance. The application process will start on July 23rd, at 8 a.m. and applicants can apply directly on www.camdencountycares.com or call (833) 487-0462.

Independence Day, better known as the The Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence of the United States on July 4, 1776. The Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies were no longer subject, and subordinate, to the monarch of Britain and were now united, free, and independent states. The Congress had voted to declare independence two days earlier, on July 2, but it was not declared until July 4. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. Independence Day is the National Day of the United States.

Mayor Ted Brennan, Councilman Andy McLoone and Chief of Police, Rich Grassia, Jr., posted a statement on the municipal website on Friday, June 5th, expressing their sadness about national events that have unfolded in over the past two weeks and, their commitment to lines of open communication about systemic racism. As a first step, these community leaders, along with other community, educational and religious representatives will host a forum in Wellwood Park on Tuesday, June 16th, at 7:00 p.m. to discuss these issues and learn how we can all do better. Wellwood Park is located between West Maple and Myrtle Avenues just past the Browning Road intersection. The public is requested to bring a chair or blanket, wear a face covering and maintain social distancing.
